Grizzly Bear

I recall we have a few Grizzly Bear fans on here. Has anyone got Shields, their new album? I’m a huge fan of Veckatimest, and heard this was more mainstream. It definitely is, but I like it for that. I’m only really listening to Yellow House now, which I’m enjoying, but I have to admit I’m really enjoying the direction they’ve gone into. Yes, the songs structures are more vanilla, but they’re still more ambitous than a lot of other bands around. There are some fantastic songs on there, one of which is Yet Again, below. Opinions, brothers?

  1. I love it love it love it love it.I think it’s as good as Veckatimest. One of the albums of the year, for sure.

  2. I think it’s brilliant. Others I know say it’s way too commercial, but I think it’s fresh, but doesn’t compromise their other work. Gun-Shy and A Simple Answer are just incredible. I CANNOT WAIT to see them on the 22nd 😀

  3. Not got Shields, should I?As I said before, I knew Veckatamist was great … but I never listen to it. I do listen to Yellow House more regularly.

  4. Saw them last night. Honestly has got straight into my top 5 gigs of all time. I cannot describe how impressive they were. Mind = blown.

  5. I’ve ordered Shields. Gutted I couldn’t go to the gig with you Brother David. Damn work. Damn constant tiredness.

I liked it anyway first few listens, but it’s really grown on me. Gun-Shy, A Simple Answer, Sun In Your Eyes, Speak In Rounds, it’s a classic in the making. And live it was SENSATIONAL. I didn’t think they could really get the complex rhythms and melodies across but they were beautiful, and with all 4 singing (plus their tour keyboardist) it was wonderful. See them while you can! <br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif" size="2">—————–</font></div><div><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif"><font size="2"><b>Guy Hornsby</b> <br>Features Editor <br><b>www.4clubbers.net</b> <br></font></font><a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="mailto:guy@4clubbers.net"><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif" size="2">guy@4clubbers.net</font></a><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif"><font size="2"> <br><b>+44 (0) 7966057695</b></font></font></div><div><br></div> <div style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;"> <div style="font-family: times new roman, new york, times, serif; font-size: 12pt;"> <div dir="ltr"> <font face="Arial" size="2"></div></div></div></div></body></html>

  7. Couldn’t agree more, Guy. Never saw a band where I *thought* I knew the songs so well, but found them presented to me in a technicolour I’d never even imagined. Leaving aside the astonishing musical ability of the whole band (even the drummer had a voice like a bell), they played with such passion and skill, it was properly emotional. The audience in Manchester went crazy for them. Probably one of my fave gigs ever.

  8. I’ve only had the album for 24 hrs but its pretty much been on all day. I look forward to this seeping in a bit more with time …… speaking of which (probably should start a new thread) Looping State of Mind by Fields is really making me excited at present. I love that album. Considering it is so laid back and understated, it makes me so excited when I play end to end. Boom! That album, a book and a glass of whiskey.

I only realised live just how complicated the precussion was on their songs. <br><br>This also happened with Radiohead. They’re amazing live, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the King Of Limbs. But seeing it live, it knocked me for six. Just unbelievable. <br><div><span><br></span></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif" size="2">—————–</font></div><div><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif"><font size="2"><b>Guy Hornsby</b> <br>Features Editor <br><b>www.4clubbers.net</b> <br></font></font><a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="mailto:guy@4clubbers.net"><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif" size="2">guy@4clubbers.net</font></a><font face="tahoma, new york, times, serif"><font size="2"> <br><b>+44 (0) 7966057695</b></font></font></div><div><br></div> <div style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;"> <div style="font-family: times new roman, new york, times, serif; font-size: 12pt;"> <div dir="ltr"> <font face="Arial" size="2"></div></div></div></div></body></html>
