Hot Knife

Thought I’d share this with the Brothers. ‘The Idler Wheel is Wiser’ by Fiona Apple was one of my favourite albums of 2012. Its mostly sparsely instrumented (piano), unconventional singer song writer fair.

This is not the most obvious track to share but I though the Paul Thomas Anderson video made it something of a spectacle. I’ve decided against the album as an album of the month as I don’t think you guys love emotionally unstable women as much as me.

Anyway, hope you enjoy on some level

  1. It’s funny, because I LOVE Kate Bush more than life itself, but I seem to struggle with any of her obvious musical descendants, Apple included. She’s clearly a prodigious musical talent, but I think I find her kookiness and intensity a bit of a turn off. It’s a very North American flavour, if you know what I mean.

Having said that, I like this track a lot more than most of her stuff. It’s pretty engaging stuff. Cheers Joey!

  2. I love Bush too (tee hee hee), however, I love her descendants. Tori Amos, Joanna Newsome and Fiona Apple (though I am not that into her previous album). I do love this album though for all the reasons that you find her a turn off. I love her intensity. I actually find her very believable where I associated ‘kooky’ with fake.

Check out the following lyrics-wise – I fell in love with her over these lyrics.

  3. I’m never been fully sold on gold old Fionna. I think she’s like very sweet things…. only good in small doses. For some reason I’ve never been able to take her that seriosly. I like these two songs though.

  4. It’s funny isn’t it, we all carry prejudice into each and every listen. It is very difficult to overcome even when the music is this good. Echo’s of Jake Bugg?
